Why I love hemp seeds and my favourite recipes using them!

I absolutely love Hemp seeds because they are a powerhouse of nutrients.

Here's why I've been adding hemp seeds to my recipes!

I absolutely love hemp seeds because they are a powerhouse of nutrients. I've recently partnered with Ananda Food, an aussie hemp company that only uses 100% Australian Hemp grown right here in Australia, Tasmania to be exact. They've got an incredible range of seed, oil, flour and protein, all packed with incredible nutrients that are so good for your health.

Not only are they one of the best sources of plant based protein, containing all 9 amino acids, they also contain loads of important vitamins and minerals, and they are a great source of fibre.

But what I love most about hemp seeds is they have one of the best Omega-3 to Omega-6 ratios, which is super important for helping us better manage and reduce inflammation. Some studies are discovering that this beneficial Omega-3 to Omega-6 ratio may help to relieve symptoms of Arthritis - something that Arthritis Australia estimates that 1 in every 6 people are currently living with!

So you might be thinking, how do I start adding this incredible superfood into my life? Well, its super-easy! They have a subtle creamy-nutty flavour which you can add to both sweet and savoury recipes. They are also considered low-allergenic meaning they are the perfect addition for lunch boxes or sharing with the whole family.

Check out my tips below, plus I've shared some of my favourite recipes using them.

HEMP SEED NUTRITION

  • Whole Protein

Hemp seeds contain all nine essential amino acids, making them a complete source of protein. In fact, hemp seeds are made up of around 30% protein, meaning you get nearly 10 grams of protein from just 3 tablespoons!

This makes Hemp Seeds one of the best plant-based sources of protein.

  • Beneficial Omega Ratio

Did you know that the ration of Omega-3 to Omega-6 fatty acids matters? Unfortunately many of us consume way more Omega-6 than we do Omega-3, which can actually affect our regulation of inflammation – Omega-6 is a precursor to one of our PRO-inflammatory hormones, whereas Omega-3 is the precursor to our ANTI-inflammatory hormones, so it’s important we get the ration right.

  • Vitamins, Minerals + Fibre

In addition to the amazing Omega fatty acids and protein, Hemp Seeds also contain great levels of vitamins E and B, and minerals like Magnesium, Zinc, Iron and Potassium. Plus they are a great source of fibre, which helps support our gut health.

HEALTH BENEFITS

  • Inflammation Management

Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids are pre-cursors to our inflammatory hormones. Omega-3 is the precursor to our ANTI-inflammatory hormones, whereas Omega-6 is the precursor to our PRO-inflammatory hormones.

Hemp Seeds contain high levels of Omega-3, and what is considered close to the ideal ration between Omega-3 and Omega-6, which is understood to help us better manage inflammation.

Studies are showing that Hemp Seeds may help to relieve symptoms of more sever inflammatory conditions such as Rheumatoid Arthritis.

  • Heart Health

Hemp seeds contain high levels of the amino acid arginine, which our bodies uses to make nitric oxide.

Nitric oxide has been shown as important in helping our arteries and veins to dilate effectively, keeping them smooth and elastic.

  • Healthy Skin

The beneficial fatty acids in Hemp Seeds are thought to helpful in improving skin hydration, skin cell-membrane integrity and skin elasticity. Sign me up!
